Food & Drink in Paris

Paris is the champion of outdoor bars and cafés. As soon as there is some sun and a little warmer weather the terraces fill right up. Great places to hang out, read a book, work on your computer, watch the people in the streets. Here’s a selection of some of the recommended sites (each with their own particular flavor and specialities). Urban farm, Bbotanical laboratory, repair shop and café–what more can one ask for? Oh, and decent prices!
  • Ground Control | | 26 ter rue Ordener, Métro: Marcadet Poissoniers (4). Like the Recylclerie, an industrial spot unused for a decade or more which has been taken over to give people from the neighborhood a place to gather and hang out. A little bit of everything: yoga and drawing classes, dj and musical concerts, art exhibits, a radio station and food and drink.
  • Le Bal | €€ | 6 impasse de la Défense, Métro: Place de Clichy.Pricey but excellent food in café that is part of a photo book store and art center focusing on photo exhibits.

Pantin (Northeast of Paris on Métro line 5)

Pantin is being marketed as the Brooklyn of Paris with the current mayor pushing development projects which repurpose older industrial buildings into cultural venues. The Canal de l’Ourcq runs through the middle of the city and is becoming a real attraction for the pantinois as well as parisians.

  • Les Bécanes d’Antoine | | 15 Mail Hélene-Brion, Pantin, Métro: Eglise de Pantin (5). Orignal combination: café and bike shop along the Canal de l’Ourcq in Pantin.
  • La Halle Papin | | 62, rue Denis Papin, Métro: Aubervilliers-Pantin-Quatre Chemins (7). Art Collective that sponsors art, music and cultural events.
  • le Bar Gallia | | 35 rue Méhul, Métro: Eglise de Pantin (5). A real beer brewery that offers a nice selection of beers along with good, affordable sandwiches, hamburgers, etc. Fun, relaxed place to go hang out. Often live music or DJ.
  • Docks B | | 1 Place de la pointe, Métro: Eglise de Pantin. In the giant Magasins Généraux building along the canal de l’Ourcq which is being rehabilitated and converted from its industrial past to a center of music (regular live performances) and food. 
  • Greenpoint | | Métro: Eglise de Pantin. Popular lunchtime (and coffee break) spot inspired by the Greenpoint neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. near the Canal de l’Ourcq in Pantin.
